Nature/Wildlife/Tracking Walk

January 8 @ 9:00 am – 10:30 am
bald eagle in tree

Thursday morning looks like a good time (not too cold, sunny) to explore the woods, shoreline, and north side of Somes Pond. I’m sure there will be many animal tracks and interesting ice/snow formations to find despite the rain we may get on Wednesday. We’ll park along Oak Hill Rd. at the pond access point and go from there. Bring traction devices if you have them as we’ll be out on the ice some of the time. As of yesterday the ice on Somes Pond was 8 inches thick and lots of yellow perch and pickerel were being caught by ice fishers. Opportunistic eagles have been keeping an eye on the pond and crows occasionally keep an eye on the eagles – sometimes from close-up!
